![]() The devs did put together a video explainer for DokeV's trailer, which offered some new details on the structure of the game and how you go about capturing these monsters, but thankfully it doesn't dispel the magic of it all. While DokeV does seem a lot like Pokémon on the surface, the whole dodge-rolling away from monsters, then crunching them with a hammer couldn't be more Monster Hunter-meets-CBeebies. Thankfully the "Dokebi" creatures you'll collect in DokeV's world aren't quite as frightening, including things like a pangolin weilding a pineapple on a stick, and against all odds the Dokebi aspect makes the most sense out of everything shown off. It makes me distinctly uncomfortable, but hopefully it's not actually weird or dubious once properly explained. Just to add to the confusion, there's this bit in the DokeV trailer where a literal child casts this spell and suddenly they're a sexy K-pop star in knee-high boots. These kids remind me a lot of either garden gnomes, or those troll dolls from the 90s, but freed from their plastic prisons and given life. Clearly a bit of the pearl abyss has seeped into their eyes, because I firmly believe that if you look one dead in the face you will be cursed. The name Pearl Abyss conjures images of swirling black and oblivion, which I believe contrasts beautifully with DokeV's festival of confetti and magical space hoppers and anthropomorphic fighting animals.īut let me tell you, Imogen's right, DokeV's kid protagonists are proper creepy. what do you actually do in DokeV? It's being made by a studio called Pearl Abyss, the folks responsible for MMORPG Black Desert. Is it a kind of Pokémon clone? Monster Hunter? But also you cast spells? What. If we’re lucky, those mini-cars will be available as merch too.Even at a base level, DokeV is chaotic. I for one cannot wait to get my hands on this and replace that Elekidi-shaped hole in my heart. What we do know is that the MMO is planned for release on major consoles as well as PC and will be suitable for all ages. Can’t Wait to Get My Hands on ItĭokeV isn’t out yet and probably won’t be for a fair while. You also seem to have access to loads of different types of transport to make getting around the world fun – from tiny cars to flying umbrellas and even a standard skateboard. These creature designs have bags upon bags of personality, which matches the playable characters. A lot of the information we do have is from this comment on the reveal trailer. DokeV seems to have escaped the trap of simply jamming two things or animals together like Pokemon does. Personally I can’t decide which I like more, the hat-wearing, water-gun-dual-wielding duck or the panda with boxing gloves. Maybe it’s because they were designed with 3D in mind from the get-go, but they all seem to be bursting with character. The creatures also seem pretty damn great. ![]() The game is supposed to be child-friendly and appeal to all ages, and with visuals that pop this much, it’s easy to see that happening. Everything in-game is rendered in a very soft, brightly colored style. The trailer shows off some impressive aesthetics, aside from just how high-quality the graphics are. If that’s true, then this is potentially one of the best looking video games of all time. The truth is, at least according to the developers, that it’s all in-game graphics. If you take a look at the trailer, you might be forgiven for thinking it was pre-rendered. DokeV seems like it’s going to keep that trend going because the trailer just dropped and so did my jaw. BDO is well known for a high-graphical fidelity, being one of the best looking MMO’s on the market. Seems like someone is finally going to step up and try to take the series’ ‘creature collecting’ crown with a game called DokeV.ĭokeV is an MMO from Pearl Abyss, the South Korean developers behind the hugely successful Black Desert Online. If you’re one of those disappointed masses, then you’re in luck. Pokemon Sword and Shield games have clearly disappointed many people with the dex cull and lack of graphical upgrades.
